March Message from the Superintendent
Spring will shortly be upon us with its wide variety of activities, such as, school programs, field trips, prom, graduation, and athletic events. Parents are an integral part of these events from participating in parent conferences to providing support as chaperones and sponsors.
Ground has been broken and construction begun on the new lower elementary. We are excited about this new chapter in the history of Glenpool Schools, a school site not on the central campus. With this new site comes opportunity to make changes to grade reorganization, including the creation of an intermediate school concept. This school will be devoted to the unique talents and abilities of students in grades 5 and 6 with its opening at the start of the 19-20 school year, with Mr. Pete Bell serving as the Intermediate School Principal. Planning for this new school will coincide with the planning for the lower elementary school, both utilizing the talents of staff and community members to make these planning decisions. Together we will continue to make Glenpool Public Schools even better.
At this time, we are uncertain as to the status of the teacher walkout. As we informed you prior to spring break, we are in support of teachers and the need to increase funding for teacher salaries and the operation of our schools. We are closely monitoring the situation and will keep you informed as decisions are made. The Board of Education took action at a special meeting to allow for the continuation of OSSAA extracurricular activities, such as, varsity athletics, vocal music and band. In addition, the Board voted to allow for the continuation of school related activities, including but not limited to ACT/SAT testing, FCCLA trip, band trip, prom, graduation, driver education, and Special Olympics. Plans are still moving forward for provision of school lunches at the elementary and middle school cafeterias. As we become aware of additional information, we will forward it to you using the School Messenger system as well as the website and mobile app.
