Oklahoma High School Principal of the Year

Glenpool Educator, Kim Coody, Selected as Oklahoma High School Principal of the Year! Oklahoma City, OK – Kimberly Coody, principal at Glenpool High School, has been named the 2018 Oklahoma High School  Principal of the Year by the Oklahoma Association of Secondary School Principals (OASSP). "Kim Coody serves her school members with an extraordinary mix of ingenuity and compassion,” said William Parker, OASSP executive director. “With a diverse and growing student population, Glenpool’s graduation rate has consistently been at 95% for several years. The academic, extracurricular, career, and college-prep options available at her school are a testament to her leadership. She is a role model for administrators throughout the State of Oklahoma." Coody, with 21 years of Oklahoma public education experience, has served as the principal of Glenpool High School since 2014. Prior to her role at Glenpool High School, she was principal of Glenpool Middle School for three years and an assistant principal for eight years. Coody began her teaching career in Bixby, OK before moving to Glenpool as an administrator.
"Kim Coody is an exceptional school leader. She is very creative with problem-solving and she approaches challenges with a positive attitude,” said Jerry Olansen, Glenpool superintendent. "Her students and staff benefit from her ability to find ways to implement new ideas rather than accepting the status quo. We are very proud that she has been recognized for her leadership and commitment to our school and community." Pam Deering, CCOSA executive director, knows the vital role principals play in educating students. "We know that principal leaders are key to the climate and culture of their schools that lead to student success. On behalf of CCOSA, congratulations to
Kim for this deserving honor. Thanks, as well, to Will Parker and his team for their work on this selection committee." Coody has implemented several innovative programs including Warrior Wednesday, a weekly time for enrichment and remediation that has improved student grades and participation in activities. In addition to college-prep courses, Glenpool has a large
number of students earning credits in career technology courses from Tulsa Technology Center and college credit through Tulsa Community College. And this year, Coody launched a new senior internship program that has allowed students to learn from area
business leaders as a part of the high school curriculum. "I am honored to be selected as the Oklahoma High School Principal of the Year,” Coody said. "This recognition is possible because of the support I receive daily from my administration and my amazing staff. They make Glenpool High School - A Great Place to Be! - our school motto. Every day I learn and grow as a leader. I am so lucky to be in a profession that gives me the opportunity to build positive relationships with both students and teachers. I love my job - all the talented teachers and administrators that support me and the students that give back to me and push me to be creative to meet their needs. Education is the most rewarding and fun profession!" Coody will also represent Oklahoma as a State Secondary Principal of the Year for the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). As a state winner, she will be invited to Washington, D.C., to be honored at the Principals Institute, a forum hosted by NASSP. There she will share best practices with other state winners and advocate for education during a trip to Capitol Hill to meet legislators. All state winners also compete for the title of National Principal of the Year through NASSP. The Oklahoma Association of Secondary School Principals is an affiliate association within the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration (CCOSA). CCOSA serves over 3000 superintendents, assistant superintendents, principals, special
education directors and central office administrators.
